The Astral Hiyak is a high-top water boot that delivers insulation, foot protection, and grip in a package that's lighter and faster-drying than a traditional neoprene bootie. The hydrophobic canvas upper is reinforced with 1060D ballistic nylon rand for serious abrasion resistance, while the padded ankle collar and semi-rigid heel cup provide the kind of support that matters on rocky put-ins and uneven portage terrain. A 3mm quilted spacer-mesh lining adds warmth and comfort without trapping moisture.
Lacing is hidden beneath a velcro over-flap, keeping the profile clean and eliminating the snag points that cause problems in cockpits and around rigging. Reflective details at the heel and tongue add a practical safety element for early morning or low-light conditions on the water.
The G.ss rubber outsole is Astral's highest-friction compound, razor-siped with drain holes at toe and heel to clear water fast. At just 3.5mm thick, it keeps ground feel intact while gripping wet rock and slick surfaces with authority. The removable 45C EVA midsole stays low at 12mm heel and 11mm ball, and can be pulled out to dry separately after a long day.
